A pregnancy located outside of the uterine cavity is dangerous.

Two percent of pregnancies are ectopic.  Symptoms include abdominal pain and bleeding in early pregnancy.  Laboratory testing may find an abnormally rising hCG, or pregnancy hormone, and low progesterone levels.  Early identification enables a woman to undergo successful medical treatment and avoid surgery.
