Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) -- a syndrome in which a woman has few, irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound.
Amenorrhea -- no menstrual period for 3 months or longer
Endometriosis -- uterine glands located outside of the uterus that can cause painful periods, scarring of the fallopian tubes and pelvic pain
Hirsuitism -- excess hair growth on the chin, sideburns, upper lip, chest and back
Premature Ovarian Insufficiency -- ovaries that stop functioning normally, which can cause hot flashes and amenorrhea
Recurrent Pregnancy Loss -- two or more miscarriages
Hormonal Assessment -- to check a woman's ovarian reserve with a follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and estradiol levels
Clomiphene Citrate Challenge Test -- a more stringent test of ovarian reserve in which FSH and estradiol levels are checked at the beginning of the menstrual cycle and then repeated after a woman takes 5 days of Clomiphene Citrate
Transvaginal Ultrasound Exam -- an ultrasound done using a probe inserted into a woman's vagina which is the best way to assess the ovaries and uterus
Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) -- a series of X-rays of the pelvis taken while contrast is placed inside the uterus and fallopian tubes (this test is done in a radiology suite under fluoroscopy)
Sonohysterogram (SHG) Exam -- a pelvic ultrasound done to assess the uterus and lining in more detail by instilling fluid into the uterus
