Tip #78: Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

This X ray of the pelvis demonstrates normal female anatomy.

A small catheter was inserted through the patient’s vagina and cervix and into her uterus.  Then, contrast was slowly injected under fluoroscopic guidance.  This image demonstrates the final X ray picture that was taken.  Both fallopian tubes are patent, which is demonstrated by the free spill of contrast out the distal ends.
