Tip #80: Early Genetic Testing in Pregnancy

Did you know that you can find out as early as 10 weeks into a pregnancy if your fetus is genetically normal?

A test approved by the F.D.A. in 2013, enables non-invasive genetic screening of the fetus for high risk women.  A small amount of fetal blood cells circulate in the maternal circulation.

This test involves drawing the mother’s blood and extracting the fetal cells from it.  Then, the fetal cells are genetic screening for abnormalities in Chromosomes 13, 18, 21 & the sex Chromosomes.
